The continuous flow of cognition toward the object of concentration.
In Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga, Dhyana (Meditation) is the seventh limb. It is the uninterrupted flow of awareness towards the object of meditation. Once the practitioner achieves perfect concentration (Dharana), the mind naturally slips into the meditative state.
Meditation is not about stopping thoughts entirely, but rather becoming an observer of the mind without attachment. Regular practice reduces stress, enhances emotional well-being, improves focus, and ultimately leads the seeker toward self-realization (Samadhi).
